Boston-based composer David Gerard has given us all something wonderful to behold in producing Ambientism and making it available to the world. The album features some nicely arranged titles complete with the kind of sweeps, textures, and sequencer gestated events that make for a cool contemplative listening experience. Much of the music is notably influenced by David's catalog of greats that include Steve Roach, Tangerine Dream, Karl Schultze and so on but then it's what David Gerard does with those influences that counts. The scale of the project can be measured reasonably accurately by the 'treatment' that each of the 10 tracks is given production wise. We have nicely composed and performed arrangements that never quite get to the point where you lose attention. I think it's an album that merits praise and appreciation and the consideration to purchase if you like listening to stuff that has value in staying true to the early influences. Elley Wilson |
