Carbon Based Lifeforms is the brainchild of Swedish composers Johannes Hedberg and Daniel Ringström (Gothenburg).

The album has been decribed as a "space fantasy" but it really is anything you want it to be. It's an amazing collection of recordings that cling to you effortlessly with their ambient embrace that makes for one hell of a an adventurous listening experience. I particularly love the elements of solitude and contemplation that are presented in tracks like 'Central Plains', and 'Refraction 1.33' Then, in the slightly more abstract offerings like 'Neurotransmitter' and 'Hydroponic Garden' there are more indstrialized sounds that make Johannes and Daniel shine in their combined compositional and production wizardries.

CBL's Hydroponic Garden is, for me at least, a very well composed and perceptively engineered piece of work that deserves a thorough listening. Not everyone is going to like this album in it's entirety, but then who needs negative when there is ultimately so much positive!
